21 Nov Can Do It? Course He Can
Can Do It broke through for his first win at Wyong on Wednesday in the De Bortoli Wines Maiden Handicap (1600m) with Chad Lever in the saddle.
The Jean Dubois-trained three-year-old colt was an impressive winner over the mile after stepping up in-distance from his last run at Royal Randwick over the 1400m.
Can Do It jumped cleanly and settled in behind the leader. He relaxed throughout the run and there weren’t any changes in position amongst the small field.
Lever pulled out at the 400m mark to give his mount a clear run and swallowed the leader on the turn before kicking away from the rest of the field to win as well as his starting price ($1.75) would suggest.
“We have always had a lot of time with this colt and he backed that up a bit the way he won today,” said Dubois.
“His last start in the City was on a Heavy track and his previous run before that was on a Good surface and over 1400m as well so we thought back on the dry and the step up to the mile really suited him.
“As for where we go next, we will get him back home and see how he has come through the run.”
Can Do It was purchased for $100,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale by Woodpark Stud from the Coolmore Stud draft. He was retained to race after being withdrawn from the Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale later that the year.
Can Do It is by American stallion No Nay Never and is out of the two-time Greek-bred mare Chrisalice. The pedigree has a very International flavour and Chrisalice is a half-sister to Total Gallery who is a former Champion Three-Year-Old Sprinter in Europe.
His record is now one win with a second and third placing from his seven starts for a total of $35,215 in prize money.
