Arnaqueur Provides Timely Update on Debut

Woodpark Stud had many reasons to smile at the weekend with homebred two-year-old Arnaqueur winning on debut in the second event on the card at Kembla Grange on Saturday with Jean Van Overmeire in the saddle over 1300m.

However, the win of the Astern colt was not only the only thing that had them smiling as next week will see the Not A Single Doubt half-brother be auctioned at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale as Lot 187 in the Lime Country Thoroughbreds draft.

It was also the third two-year-old winner in the space of a week for Jean Dubois and Woodpark Stud, two of which being by Darley freshman Astern.

“This is a horse that we have had a good opinion of from very early on and for good reason as his dam Aloona has been such a grand mare for us being the dam of our Group 2 Todman Stakes winner Aylmerton,” said Jean Dubois.

“He is a bigger sort of a horse so he has taken a bit of work to get him to this point but he is a tough horse as well so he continued to take what we gave him and it is certainly pleasing to see him put it together on debut and go one from one.”

Arnaqueur came into his first assignment off the back of two trials, winning the first one at the track just under a month ago.

“He trialled well here at Kembla a month or so ago and he had another one a fortnight after that just to bring him on for his debut and we thought that the 1300m would be right up his ally rather than kicking him off at 1200m or shorter.”

Arnaqueur is by Astern who is starting to get a little momentum as this is his fourth winner in his first season. Stablemate Zadig was his third around a week ago.

“It is very important for the farm that we are not only having winners on the track but also doing the right thing by our mares and a very timely update with the Not A Single Doubt out of Aloona going through the sales next week it is a very timely update isn’t it?”

Arnaqueur was retained to race by Woodpark after being withdrawn from last years edition of the Easter Yearling Sale.
