Zadig Wins Two in a Row

06 Jun Zadig Wins Two in a Row

Zadig has won two on the trot from his three starts, with a win at Wagga on Friday in the WDF Professional Lamont Classic – 2yo Handicap (1300m). Brody Loy was riding.

The gelded son of Astern was tucked away on the rail as they turned for home before Loy pulled him out to clear running. Zadig headed the leader, then pushed past the filly and cleared away from the field.

“He actually surprised us a little bit because he did it really well. Especially the way he fought all the way to the line and got the better of the second horse,” trainer Jean Dubois said.

“He is progressing nicely every prep. We will have to think about where he goes next. There are a few options as we need to decide if we race again at the provincials or take him to the city.

“He is a nice prospect and he is taking it all in and learning when he goes to the races every time. He still needs to learn his craft a little more and his manners, though I am sure with time it will come and it will only improve him.

“We are having a good run with the Astern’s this year and we have two nice ones. Hopefully, Arnaqueur can come back from a freshen-up and do the same in the back-end of winter and the Spring.”

Zadig is continuing the momentum of his sire Astern who has been having a nice little run himself and starting to post some winners as his first racing crop is nearing three. It is expected that they will make beautiful three-year-olds which is certainly the case with the two in training at Woodpark.

Purchased as a yearling for $60,000 from the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Zadig is out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Zrinski. She is out of the Group 1 VRC Oaks (2500m) winner Brazilian Pulse. Zadig was purchased from the Twin Hills draft.
