04 Sep Jerry shines at Randwick
Jerry got the bookies day off to a good start at Royal Randwick at the weekend with a tough display to win the TAB Highway Handicap (1200m) at $44.
The Nicconi three-year-old has always shown he has ability but concentration has been the issue for him during his short career so far.
“He is still a little green this horse and has plenty of learning to do,” Woodpark assistant trainer Pierre Dubois said.
“He has been improving each prep and he really has some speed to burn.
“It was an excellent ride from James Innes Jnr, he really controlled the horse and gave him every chance to win.
“It is always pleasing to have a winner in the City and the team at home have been putting in the hard yards. It has been a tough time for a lot of people in NSW recently so it is nice to have a winner today.”
Jerry was the second winner bred by Woodpark for the week with See You In Spring claiming victory at Cranbourne in Victoria on Thursday.
Jerry is out of Jolie Joy who is a half-sister to the Group 1 Derby-winning filly Qafila. Qafila, by Not A Single Doubt, was purchased this year by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock for $2 million in foal to Dundeel at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale.
Jolie Joy has a Smart Missile yearling and is due to foal to first season stallion Zousain in the coming months.
