03 Jun Sorokin too strong at Wyong
Sorokin was an impressive winner at Wyong early in June, with Dylan Gibbons on board.
The big-striding gelding by Star Witness was bred by Woodpark Stud, so it was pleasing to see him break his maiden at just his third start.
“It was an excellent ride by Dylan,” Woodpark Assistant Trainer Pierre Dubois said.
“He put him in the perfect position in the run and got out at the right time. He was able to get him into a nice rhythm early, which gave him every chance to be fighting it out all the way to the end.
“There is so much improvement to come with this horse, which is exciting for the team. We are just going to take it step by step with him and not rush him along too much.”
Sorokin was having his second start at the 2000m and looks like a handy middle-distance horse going forward.
The three-year-old is the first foal out of the Super Saver mare Save Our Oceans who still resides at Woodpark Stud.
She currently has a weanling filly by Woodpark’s resident Stallion Aylmerton, who was a Group 2-winning juvenile by sire-sensation Siyouni. She was covered by Aylmerton again this season.
