08 Apr Woodpark’s Million Dollar Day
It has been a Yearling Sale Season to remember for the Jean and Karine Dubois and Woodpark Stud with their first million-dollar yearling being bred at the farm selling at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale to Coolmore Australia.
The Not A Single Doubt x Aloona colt catalogued as Lot 187 was on all the good judges shortlist and Tom Magnier and Coolmore were the winning bid.
“It was a great day for the first time we sold a yearling for $1 million,” Jean Dubois said after the fall of the hammer.
“It is a great achievement for a small farm like ours with only 15 to 20 mares so it is a great story.
“The mare has been a good broodmare, the first one was Aylmerton who was a good horse and should have a better record than he did and then the second one won at Kembla last Saturday and I think he is going to be a really good miler next year.”
The dam Aloona has been an outstanding mare so far for the farm and it appears it is only going to get better from here.
Her first foal Aylmerton by Siyouni won the Group 2 Todman Stakes as a two-year-old and then Arnaqueur was Astern’s fourth winner just last weekend and he looks to have a bright future.
The Not A Single Doubt colt was offered by Lime Country Thoroughbreds and he was also the first seven-figure yearling for the growing Burradoo farm.
“It’s our first million-dollar yearling and Coolmore, they know their stuff, they’ve had such a sensational run with that first group of two-year-old colts they bought last year with this syndicate and I’m so happy it’s going to Chris Waller, couldn’t be better,” said Lime Country’s Jo Griffen after the sale.
“I think that touch of European blood, he has a bit more scope to him, really beautiful action and the best brain on the ground.
“At the end of the day, we don’t get great stock like this without really good breeder’s behind us and so grateful local people the Dubois’ have entrusted us with two colts at this sale.”
Woodpark will now have to weigh up whether to sell the Snitzel half-sister at this sale next year or retain her to race and eventually end up in the same broodmare band as her mother.
There were also another two great results for the sale with Woodpark selling a total of three yearlings. Lot 94 the Fastnet Rock x Soneva filly selling to Brae Sokolski’s Yes Bloodstock and Belmerino Racing for $550,000 and on Day 2 of the Sale Lot 294 a Capitalist x Emirates Comfort colt sold to Bevan Smith Bloodstock and McKeever Bloodstock for $150,000.
“Soneva is another of those European mares that we brought down here with us and she had some success in the Northern Hemisphere with a horse called The Blue Eye (Dubawi) who is still racing exceptionally well in Qatar and then we have Julian Rock (Invincible Spirit) still in training at our farm and of course the Siyouni filly See You Soon who was recently added to our broodmare band,” Dubois said.
“It is so pleasing to offer these horses for sale and have excellent people buy them and you know they are in good hands going forward and we wish all the purchasers the very best of luck in the future with them.”
