13 Jun Zadig cruises in Highway
Zadig provided the Woodpark Stud Newsletter subscribers with an early win in just the second edition of the stable’s ‘One To Follow.’
The three-year-old was highlighted as the one to watch by Woodpark Assistant Trainer Pierre Dubois and Dylan Gibbons got the job done in the first on the card at Randwick to back up that confidence.
Gibbons has been in a rich vein of form recently and brought up his 100th winner in race-to-race double, Zadig was his 99th. He also recently rode Sorokin to the winner’s stall for Woodpark.
“He’s been running well that horse,” Gibbons said after the race.
“I didn’t think anyone inside wanted to take it up (the lead) so I was quick to take it up. They left me alone with three kilos off, and thankfully he was too tough.”
Pierre Dubois was also pleased with the win of the three-year-old who has been running well at Highway level.
“It was a strong win by Zadig and another great ride by Dylan for the stable,” Dubois said.
“He decided to take the lead after seeing no one else was going to take it up and it proved to be a winning decision.
“The fitness and the claim (3kgs) really helped us today. It’s a deserving win for a horse that has been running consistently.
“We will get him home and I’d say we will push on with him because he has been in great form at the moment since that little freshen and trial. We will have to wait and see where the boss wants to take him next.”
Zadig was purchased by Woodpark Stud as a yearling at the Inglis Premier Sale from the Twin Hills draft for $60,000. He is by Astern and out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Zrinski. She herself is out of the VRC Oaks winner Brazilian Pulse.
It was Zadig’s third win of his career, to go with a second placing from 11 starts. He has now amassed over $107,000 in prize money.
